Whats occured in the latest week then.
279 days as a non smoker now & loving it. I think i have cracked the quiting this time with my sporty incentives. Due for another weigh in soon. Calories burned for this month is looking like it's going to be the highest yet. :-)
workouts for the week
Tuesday - 29 miler on the Barnham Broom loop
Wednesday - 1 mile swim, front crawl nightmare again, just bought a nose clip today, so hope that makes things easier.
Saturday - Sunshine arrived so shorts on & no jacket for a 35 miler to Acle
http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/106235136
Saturday - park run 5k. 26.45 so 30 secs slower than my PB. Really struggled with it. Arleya got another PB and broke the 29 minute barrier
Sunday - Did the sports relief mile with Arleya. Think i was round in about 8 minutes.
Clocks now gone forward so will be increasing the evening training
Sunday - 30 - 70 mile ride
Monday - Rest day
Tuesday - 40+ mile bike ride
Wednesday - mile swim
Thursday - Rest day
Friday - 20 mile bike ride
Saturday - 5k park run + 40 - 80 mile ride
A blog to hopefully inspire. My journey from a mid 40's, overweight, unfit, 30 a day smoker, to becoming an Ironman

My first Sportive
What a great day at the first Hethersett 30/60 sportive. Get to that in a minute, bit of a run through on training progress for the week.
Tuesday - 30 mile cycle - http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/102440810
Wednesday - 1.09 mile swim. Started with the front crawl again, think i'm making progress & nearly managed a length. also did a weigh in & have dropped another pound so now down to 14st 7lbs.
Saturday - I've got together a few mates so we can go out for gentle Saturday rides as most of the club ones interfere with park run. We went out, got drenched & did around 30 mile - http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/103729260
new Bib shorts arrived, look and feel great. Be nice to wear them if the weather ever heats up.
brings us to today & the sportive. Heres the route
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/159073761
Started off at 9am in staged starts. 2 laps of of a 30 mile circuit that ran from Hethersett to Attleborough, over to New Buckenham, up to Mulbarton the back across to hethersett. Here you could turn off for the 30 miler or carry on for the 60.
Did my first 30 in 1hr 45 mins, found it quite easy going especially when mixed in with a group. As we came to the end of the first lap riders were hovering around so i nipped round, got my head down and pushed it to Wymondham. Nobody in sight, I'd started a break, lol. However, this may have turned out to be a mistake.
I got held up in Wymondham by some lights & everyone came trundling up behind. Then they were away leaving me for dust. I finished the final 25 miles pretty much solo & by the time i'd done 50 miles i was struggling big time.
Anyway, made it back in 3hrs 39mins which was a lot better than my predicted 4 hrs 30mins i was expecting & would have been happy to achieve.
Roll on the next event. East Coast Triathlon (another first) on 22nd April.
Remember i'm trying to raise money for Help for Heroes so if you would like to donate. Dosent matter how small, it's all appreciated, then please click on this link

Snetterton Rough Ride
What have i been up to since last week?
Spent £50 on a pair of bib shorts, thought it was time to invest in some better quality gear.
Did a mile swim on the Wednesday, sneaking some front crawl in as well. still crap & can only manage half a length.
Got another PB on park run reducing my time to 26.10 mins. My daughter knocked over 2 minutes of her time though bringing her 5k time to 31.03 mins.
Following park run i met up with a friend who has decided to have a go at cycling. Weighing over 16 stone (sounds familiar) he's decided to try and shred some more weight.
So first ride for him we did a 28 miler on Saturday. heres the route

Sunday i went on the Snetterton Rough ride. Loved the ride with the company of a few others from Tri-Anglia. Not very impressed by the effort put in by Diss CC though. £3 got you a map, thats it. Route instructions were not that clear either, meaning we added an extra 5k to the 55k ride. Non of the route was marked & the organisers didnt even hang around till everyone had completed the courses. So, sorry Diss CC, i wont be taking part in any of your events going forward. Anyway, here's the route

Whats coming up then. Hetherset 30/60 cycle sportive next weekend, really looking forward to that, especially now the weathers turned. May even risk the shorts. :-)
Been debating shaving my legs for a while, think i'll go for it, just find shaving my face a chore, let alone the legs as well. But, weighing up all the pro's for doing it, seems the right thing to do with all my cycling activity.
April will see my first Tri-athlon, scary times that one.

Hethersett 30/60 looming
My first cycle sportive event is now looming & my second medal opportunity of 2012. :-) March 18th, weathers been a bit ropey the last few days so hoping it stays nice.
Some decent cycling on Eurosports now, Paris - Nice currently on, looks like Eurosports are covering ll the tours & classics this year, cycling is definately taking off in the UK now.
Right, what have i done since Fritton.
Wednesday swam 1 mile at UEA, did a bit of front crawl, doing my head in a bit because i really want to get a grip of it. Got the ironman bug again now so ned to nail it in time for that. Plan to do it before i'm 50, only 6 years away.
Saturday got back on the park run & got a new PB. 26.13 mins, relly chuffed with that. Only got lapped by 3 of the speedy boys as well which was a bonus.
Then went on a loop to Southwold. 65 mile round trip. Bloody freezing at the coast & i looked like a bit of a nutter in the rain and wind. not quite as nutty as the woman who was swimming though !!
Heres the route

Sunday did a 3 mile walk
Today did a nice 32 mile loop out to Acle, have had to amend the route though as ended up on boggy tracks twice. Heres the route
http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/99801158
So, all going well. Already done 6500 calories in March through the exercise so may break the monthly record of 28,000 this month. Should see me shred some more weight.
Bonus this month as well. Money set aside to buy some new clothes as they are all on the large size now
